Caring for and working with medically complex adult patients, the Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) will work in an adjunctive capacity as supportive personnel to a qualified Speech-Language Pathologist. The CDA will implement rehabilitation and supportive programming after the Speech-Language Pathologist has completed the assessment and determined the treatment plan.
Based on a thorough understanding of physiological and functional speech, language, cognitive-communication and hearing, the CDA will demonstrate programming skills and intervention techniques to evoke and sustain communication behaviours. In addition, the CDA is aware of vital behaviours and environmental factors that can potentially support or erode the efficacy of treatment.
Essential Qualifications
Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma in a health-related field such as communication disorders, linguistics, human anatomy and physiology, social sciences, or human services.
Successful completion of a Post-Graduate Certificate as a Communicative Disorders Assistant, from an accredited college.
Current Certificate of Registration with the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada (CDAAC)
A minimum of one-year clinical experience with an adult population.
Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
Excellent communication (written and verbal), organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
Ability to establish work priorities and ensure deadlines are achieved
Ability to resolve issues or to re-direct enquires to the appropriate resource to ensure the resolution of the issue
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to diffuse situations involving conflict
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a fast pace environment.
Demonstrated ability to offer and receive constructive feedback with fellow team members.
Demonstrated self-awareness and an understanding of personal strengths and weaknesses in pursuit of continuous improvement
Preferred QualificationsProficiency in French would be an asset

Immunization RequirementsProvide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine and a written commitment to follow any future Public Health recommendations and St. Joseph’s Health Care London policies and processes related to Covid management in the workplace.
Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
